Eight designs, four sizes, one price. That’s the short version of what we sell. Each pairs a wool band, handwoven in Morocco by artisans, with full-grain leather, and each costs $50 whichever design or size you pick. Seven designs carry names. The eighth is a gamble you can opt into. Here’s the tour: the colors we can actually see in our photos, the story behind each name, and the sort of dog that wears it well.
What goes into every BohoBarks collar?
The recipe never changes. A woven band rides on a leather strap, a brass-tone buckle holds it shut, and tags clip to a D-ring. Our materials page goes deeper on the parts, and our story page covers where the collars come from.
We make small batches, about 200 per design. Because hands do the weaving, one band can differ from its neighbor, which is part of the appeal.
One honest note on color. We describe only what shows up in the product photos, and screens vary, so treat every shade below as a close guide.
What colors are in Desert Dunes?
Picture warm clay. Desert Dunes shows rows of cream and black crosses framed by diamonds in rust brown, burnt orange and deep red.
It points south. According to Wikipedia’s Atlas Mountains entry, the range runs roughly 1,600 miles through Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia and divides the coast from the Sahara.
Tan, golden and brown coats wear it like a second skin. Against black fur it turns moody and quiet. Our style guide by coat color has more pairing ideas.
How graphic is Berber Sands?
A single red diagonal slices across an off-white and black field, with tiny flecks of orange and green. Berber Sands goes graphic.
It salutes the Amazigh people, widely called Berbers, who are indigenous to North Africa. Many Amazigh people prefer their own name to “Berber,” so we use both with care. Think of it as a nod, not a claim about where this weave came from.
Dark coats make the red diagonal sing. Brown dogs get a clean edge.
Why call a collar Marrakesh Express?
Off-white and black diamonds, with red running through them. Look closer and you’ll spot small blue, green and gray-blue accents tucked in like punctuation. Meet Marrakesh Express.
The city is real and old. UNESCO’s listing says the Almoravids founded it in 1070 to 1072, and its medina is still lived in today.
Black and brown dogs show it off best, as do restless ones.
What mood does Atlas Adventure carry?
Deep indigo-purple meets cream, with amber-orange peaks and small red and yellow touches. Atlas Adventure reads cool and warm at one glance.
Its name has the peaks in mind. The High Atlas holds Toubkal, the highest summit in North Africa, at about 13,671 feet, per that Atlas entry. We don’t claim the pattern maps any mountain, though. Only the idea of one is there.
White, cream and golden coats suit it best, and trail dogs earn the name.
What makes Medina Mosaic so bright?
Triangles in orange, red, yellow and pale gray-blue, each with a black outline, so the shapes read like tiles. Medina Mosaic is bold and sunny.
A medina means the walled old quarter of a Moroccan city. UNESCO calls the medina of Marrakesh a living town of 700 hectares, with a tangle of lanes, houses, souks and artisanal trades, and that crowded, colorful feel is what the title borrows.
Gray, silver and black coats make the warm colors glow. Big personalities should apply.
Where does Caravan Dreams get its glow?
Late afternoon, in wool. Caravan Dreams combines mustard gold and rust orange with navy and white flecks.
For centuries, camel caravans carried goods across the Sahara between the Mediterranean coast and the Niger River region, and a long, slow road is what the title calls up. The weave itself records no particular journey.
Daydreamers and long-walk lovers fit it, and warm and cool coats alike look good in it.
How loud is Arabian Nights?
This one is loud. Arabian Nights puts yellow, red and bright blue side by side, divided by white and navy.
The Nights are a collection of Middle Eastern folktales compiled in Arabic, where Scheherazade spins a new story each night. Our collar is Moroccan, not Arabian. We only borrowed its sense of story and color.
Showmen of any coat will carry it, black, brown and white especially.
What happens with a Surprise?
For people who love a mystery. Pick a size and a randomly chosen, one-of-a-kind Moroccan design arrives. The photos we have show zigzag and diamond bands in reds, oranges and cream, though yours may look different.
Price stays at $50, and you will find it on the Surprise / Assorted page. It suits gifts, and it suits owners who can’t decide.
How do the names fit together?
They follow themes. Desert Dunes and Atlas Adventure name scenery. Marrakesh Express and Medina Mosaic are cities. Berber Sands points toward people and culture, while Caravan Dreams and Arabian Nights lean romantic and atmospheric. Each name leans on a real place, a real people or a real story.
What if you have two dogs?
Twin collars in different sizes look sweet on a pair of siblings, and since all four sizes share one price, a mismatched pair costs nothing extra. Another route is contrast: give the sunny dog Medina Mosaic and the shy one Atlas Adventure, and let the weaves do the talking.
How do you choose a design?
Start with your dog’s coat, then trust your gut. Our suggestions are opinions, not rules:
| Coat | Good bets |
|---|---|
| Black or dark brindle | Marrakesh Express, Berber Sands, Arabian Nights |
| White or cream | Atlas Adventure, Arabian Nights |
| Golden, red or tan | Atlas Adventure, Marrakesh Express |
| Gray or silver | Caravan Dreams, Medina Mosaic |
| Brown or chocolate | Berber Sands, Marrakesh Express |
| No idea | Surprise |
Size matters more than color, and four sizes exist: XS (8 to 11 inches), S (10.5 to 14), M (13.5 to 18) and L (16 to 23). Learn how to measure your dog for a collar before you order, and check our size guide for the chart. Land between two? Go smaller.
Frequently asked questions
Does every design cost the same?
Yes. It’s a flat $50 for every design in every size, mystery pick included.
Will my collar look just like the photo?
Close, but not twin. A person wove each band, so shades and spacing drift a little from piece to piece. Treat the photo as a sample, not a copy.
How does Surprise work?
You pick the size. We pick the pattern, drawn blind from mixed stock. Think of it as a blind date for collars.
Which weave shines brightest?
Arabian Nights, by a wide margin, with yellow, red and blue sitting shoulder to shoulder. Medina Mosaic and Caravan Dreams are next, and Desert Dunes is the calmest of the lot.
